  "We dont mourn the dead"

  i remember a brother making the above statement in regards to an elderly sister who had passed.

  he stated we don't mourn or even visit grave sites because we have a hope that jah will resurrect the dead.

  it seemed really creepy at the time, hell, even jesus wept when lazarus died.

  My father would scoff those in "Christendom" and say, "look at they way they cry when loved ones die. They claim they that their loved ones are in heaven - so why cry?!" The insensitivity and lack of human feeling is real among the Witnesses.

  Paul Grundy told me that Witnesses don't celebrate birthdays because "better the day of one's death." Right? "So why does the funeral outline specifically state that you can't even eulogize the deceased?" he mused.

  Witnesses are left with nothing. No celebration of life. No celebration of death. Just more opportunities to spew out cult propaganda that hijacks the grieving process. Shame.

  Do WT Publications Make Us Feel Unworthy, Unlovable and Helpless?

  it is my contention that the wtbts, (as do all high-control, authoritarian cults), deliberately cultivates dysfunctional beliefs among its members.

  in particular, the most destructive of these beliefs are those that undermine one's feelings of self-worth.

  for a research project i am doing, i am looking for direct quotes from wt publications that seem to be specifically designed to manipulate the readers into feeling: unworthy, unlovable, inadequate and/or helpless.

  The whole notion of Christianity is to accept that you are a slave. Born diseased and imperfect with an incurable condition that only Christianity can restore. It's like we've been sold this faulty product (life, according to JW teachings) and need to constantly go back to the religion for repairs forever. There's a word for people who sell you something dud so that you'll be dependent on their services for the rest of your lives: it's called a con artist. A scammer.

  Even the Return to Jehovah booklet targeting those who have left the organization is riddled with six or so reasons for why anyone would have left - all of which are degrading and blame the person who has left for their "imperfect" attitudes. Not one of those reasons stated in the brochure include "Perhaps You've Grown Tired of Being Lied to". That would have made a good chapter.

  @punkofnice There's no WAY that friend of mine will even look at old literature from the society for the fear and paranoia WT as instilled upon her that "old literature gets doctored all the time by apostates". The society really has its bases covered. Disgusting liars.

  Funny how "Satan's world" and the "corrupt governments" foot the bill for many who pioneer and rely on government assistance in order to carry out their evangelizing work. Either Satan is behind the governments and is using them to oppress and restrict Jehovah's kingdom work, or Satan is not manipulating these global political leaders so that they can provide financial assistance to those in full-time service. Which is it, JWs???

  What is the most bizarre counsel you received as a JW, from a JW?

  there were many addressed to me.

  for example, i once had a sister tell me i was gambling because i liked playing skill crane (the machine where you have to try to pick up prizes like stuffed animals) at the arcade.

  i then fired back a her: "you saw the r-rated movie 'backdraft.

  My elder father told me solemnly that if anything - ANYTHING - no matter how innocuous and sin-free it was stumbled fellow brothers and sisters, you must be willing to change, no matter what. Even if it's the color of your car. If it stumbles, YOU ARE GUILTY OF SIN.

  And how easily Witnesses are stumbled. This breed of overly-sensitive, overly-righteous, fragile-conscious-possessing mental patients are ready to call the elders if you even use the wrong tone of voice while speaking. Imagine how crazy and paranoid us kids grew up to be.

  When texting a friend who is a 29 year old Witness about history repeating itself with 1975 and how much the brothers back then gave up in anticipation of that date, she messaged me saying "that was the brothers and sisters back then being stupid and not listening to the society." This new generation of a Witness sincerely believed that the society NEVER instructed brothers and sisters to look to that date with anticipation. That the society NEVER endorsed the ideals of some brothers and sisters who sold their homes, didn't plant crops and threw themselves into the full-time service as the "system came to a close."

  Gee, I wonder where she got that line of reasoning? The society is blameless. Once again, the rank and file messed up and got ahead of themselves. Shame on them.

  She is not alone in the new generation of Witnesses who suffer from this WT-induced amnesia of its own history.

  My New Fascination - Evolution!

  since leaving watchtower i kind of hit the "reset" button in my mind and reevaluated what i thought i knew, what i believe and i require proof for every idea put before me before i commit to it.

  lately i've been fascinated with evolution.

  as a jw i never even looked at the subject, dismissing it as "just a theory".

  You might pose this question to any Witness that tries to suggest that Jehovah created each species according to its kind and has even made it impossible for two different species to mate and propagate their genes to form a new, all-functioning species. Ask them, "if Jehovah set up clear genetic boundaries between the species, why were the demons able to create powerful offspring with human women - offspring whose threat of procreating could only be removed by means of a fatal flood? Wouldn't the genetic code/DNA of angels and demons be FAR more different than humans to procreate with?" It's funny how Jehovah's "divine laws of nature" are not even "laws" by definition. Divine laws set by a creator who sticks to His word can't be reversed or tampered with at will.

  Judge acts to limit Watchtower's influence on child.

  a judge in the uk has ordered strict limits on a jw father's ability to let the watchtower indoctrinate his child.

  not sure if this is precedent setting, but i think the judge is spot on.

  I'm an adult and have been rocked to my core by the content streamed in the assembly hall. I didn't realize how traumatized and damaged over the images I was exposed to when I was an infant 'til I watched a Youtube clip from Paul Grundy showing a slideshow of the Armageddon imagery from our publications over the years. I broke down and wept at my computer screen, shaking and trembling in fear. It all came rushing back to me - things that have been suppressed by my subconscious for decades. To suggest that young ones today are "too young" to take in the nature of what images and videos and lessons they're exposed to is reckless. The evidence of emotional trauma and manipulation is knocking at our mind's door, all these years later.
